Youth to Reconcile (Y2R)

Tensions between Muslim communities expelled by the LTTE in 1991 and their recent return with their natural increase remains a source of potential conflict which could be manipulated by powerful political actors on all sides.  In addition tension between the Catholics who are in the majority in Mannar who claim dominance over the Hindus is another concern, that have led to sporadic clashes over religious sites could reignite.  CCT specifically targeted Christian, Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim communities in the Mannar District. In all four locations, there are disputes between majority and minority communities on diverse issues ranging from access to fishing to land occupation, which is compounded by drug abuse and other social ills. As these disputes have the potential to exacerbate into violent conflict, CCT engaged and trained local youth leaders and groups into organic collectives to facilitate engagement between conflicting parties and find solutions.
