As a result of our engagement with this project we were able to publicly acknowledge our interest in standing along with the Malayaha community in their struggle to achieve their basic rights and dignity. During the implementation of this project, CCT was able to collect educational and advocacy materials to highlight the current living conditions and sufferings of the Malayaha community in 2023 that marks 200 years of the arrival of their ancestors. The project team decided to produce 4 videos under four main themes, namely on: 1. Housing and Land; 2. Poverty; 3. Education; and 4. Health. The four videos were screened one at a time after which facilitated discussions took place. The participants included community leaders, youth activists, NGO staff, local Trade Union leaders, Educationists, Pradeshiya Saba Members, and Children’s club animators from the Hatton area. The partner organizations from our target communities who contributed to the creation of videos have expressed their readiness to stand with us and to make use of the wider network of CCT and its partners locally and internationally to raise their voices on behalf of the people they represent.
